Safer by Aaron Lamont
Tristan Bates Theatre, 5th – 23rd October 2010
How do you carry on when there’s no such thing as society? Betty and Phil do – somehow…
For months they’ve survived in their barricaded home, scavenging from outside and rationing within. Outside isn’t safe. But they get by. Their relationship has lasted for decades through love and hard work. Phil can never let her go.
When their home is invaded, all that changes.
Subverting the genre of survivalist fiction, this darkly comic play provides a sharp commentary on our contemporary culture of fear, and a claustrophobic character study of an abandoned elder generation.
Aaron Lamont is a Northern Irish writer whose first play Nets was previewed at the Tricycle Theatre in 2008 by Tangible Theatre Company. Since then he has begun building a career as a playwright and script editor. This is his second play for the stage.
